GPO Witness History Interpretive Exhibition Center

Dublin’s Central Post Office GPO became world famous during the Easter Resistance In 1916 where the building was used as headquarter of the rebels - but GPO was known in Dublin long before that.
This architectural beauty was built for the purpose and completed in January 1818 - it had everything a state-of-the-art post office needed at that time. There was a post office in front as well as a courtyard behind to receive the mail that came in horse carriages. There was a residence for the employees and saddles for horses as well as postal sorting, telegraph and telephony.
Today all this is past although you can still buy stamps and cards at the post office - the building is still filled with exciting history and it is now to be shared. From Easter 2016 the GPO opens the doors to an exhibition center where you can immerse yourself in the history, the building, Dublin and the Easter Resurrection. Here you are offered a unique and exciting mix of learning, opportunity for immersion, and fun for everyone.
