The 173-meter-high rocky hill on the city’s southern side is Barcelona’s largest and most diverse area. The landscape has been shaped by two major international events: the 1929 World’s Fair and the 1992 Olympic Games. Before the 1992 Olympics, the buildings on Montjuïc had fallen into disrepair, but during the preparations for the Games, they were restored—and new projects were launched. Today, Montjuïc is a popular attraction for both tourists and locals, thanks to its museums and exciting architecture. On Montjuïc, you can visit the Miró Museum, the Olympic Stadium, MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya), or Poble Espanyol from the 1929 World’s Fair.
