Felipe II’s impressive grey palace, San Lorenzo de El Escorial from the year 1584, has been called the eighth wonder of the world by many Spaniards. The gigantic structure measures 206 meters by 161 meters and took 21 years to build.
The building is a blend of monastery, church, and palace, all merged within a framework of courtyards and corridors, and it appears incredibly magnificent. There are many fascinating things to see, including the royal chambers, the Court of the Kings, the Pantheon of the Kings (mausoleum), the basilica, and the library.
