The structure was originally built as a fortress/Moorish castle and later became a palace for the Christian kings. The architectural style is a blend of Renaissance, Gothic, and Moorish design. The visit includes three richly decorated palaces adorned with exquisite tiles and stucco work. Upon entering, you first arrive at the large courtyard where the royal court gathered before going hunting. From here, narrow passageways lead to the central courtyard called the Courtyard of the Maidens. Facing this courtyard is the finest of all the rooms, the Salón de Embajadores from 1427, with its distinctive cedarwood-carved dome. Continuing onward, you reach the residence of King Carlos V from the 16th century. It is also recommended to take a walk through the adjoining gardens, which feature various fountains, pools, and terraces.
