The Lithuanian open air Museum in Rumšiškės - one of the largest of its kind in Europe - showcases the traditional Lithuanian peasant society with an extensive collection of authentic reconstructed buildings where Lithuanians lived and worked. On an area of 175 hectares, there are 140 buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries with recreated interiors and surroundings. The museum was established in 1966 with the aim of preserving and illustrating past forms of society.
