Costa Rica, Rafting & Caribbean

Day 1: Welcome to Costa Rica

Upon arrival in Costa Rica once passing migrations, baggage claim and customs, you will get to the arrival exit where you will meet and greet with our representative (holding a sign bearing your name). Our guide will check with you your travel details, in case there is any doubt and will provide you with transportation to your hotel. The drive from the airport to the hotel takes 25 minutes approximately.

Day 2: San José / Pacuare / Turrialba

Early in the morning, you will be picked up at Selina Hotel and then transfer towards Siquirres and Pacuare, where the rafting action will begin on one of the best rafting spots in the world.
Please take all your belongings with you.

Raft one of the top 10 whitewater rivers in the world: the renowned Pacuare. This unforgettable Costa Rica one-day trip will be the highlight of your time here! The Pacuare River is famous for its magnificent beauty and world-class whitewater. Our one-day trip takes you down 19 miles (30 km) of Class 3 & 4 rapids through remote rainforests past cascading waterfalls and exotic wildlife. Your adventure begins with pick-up from your hotel in the San Jose area. On the way to the Pacuare River, you will stop for breakfast. When you arrive at the rafting put-in, you will meet your certified rafting guides and get outfitted with all the necessary equipment. They will give you a comprehensive rafting safety talk and instruct you on paddling basics. Then, you and your group will begin to paddle deep into the heart of one of Costa Rica’s most impressive primary rainforests. It’s an adrenaline-packed day running the Pacuare’s thrilling rapids. Along the way, you will pass the National Geographic award-winning Eco lodge (available for overnight and multi-day adventure trips). A picnic lunch, prepared by your guides, will be served at one of the beautiful riverside beaches. When you reach the take-out point, you will go to a place where you can shower and change clothes and then return to San Jose.

River Difficulty: Moderate.
Class III rafting: Rapids with high irregular waves; narrow passages that often require complex maneuvering.
Class IV rafting: Long, difficult rapids with constricted passages that often require precise maneuvering in very turbulent waters.
Rafting Distance: 19 miles.
River time: From 3.5 to 4 hours - depending on the water level.

Includes: Transfers from/to San José, breakfast, professional bilingual certified rafting guides, rafting equipment, changing rooms and showers after rafting, and lunch.

What to bring?
Rubber-soled, strap-on shoes that can get wet (Tevas, tennis shoes, water shoes, etc.), swimsuit/swim trunks T-shirt and shorts of a quick-drying material, A long-sleeve T-shirt (quick-dry, is handy if you get cold easily on the water or want more sun protection), insect repellent & water-resistant sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher, please try to use biodegradable “reef safe” sunscreen to not contaminate the river), sun hat or bandana, croakies or straps to secure glasses, change of clothes (including dry shoes for after your tour), towel for changing/showering after the trip, any prescription medications necessary.

Swimming experience is required.
Recommended for anyone in normal healthy physical condition.

Things to consider for a trip to Costa Rica
▪ Copies of passport.
▪ Sunscreen and insect repellent.
▪ Shirts: cotton or light synthetic, long- and short-sleeved.
▪ Dry fit clothing: cotton or light synthetic pants and shorts. Bring at least 2 sets of clothes that dry quickly (jeans not recommended and too slow to dry).
▪ Footwear: waterproof, light-weight hiking boots, river sandals (Teva-type sandals), tennis shoes/running shoes. If you do not bring hiking boots, make sure you bring TWO pairs of tennis shoes.
▪ If you are going to observe the turtle nesting at any of the nesting areas in the country, bring dark pants and shirt, and closed-toe shoes.
▪ Socks: bring extra pairs in case feet get wet.
▪ Rain gear: rain poncho and/or umbrella.
▪ Hat(s) with visor for rain and sun protection.
▪ Flashlight with spare batteries and bulb (a MUST for Corcovado area).
